TAPANTI NATIONAL PARK

(6.080 ha). It`s situated in the Orosi district, in Cartago province. Most of it is surrounded by The Macho River Forest Reserve. It possesses two life zones: lower montane rain forests (lower mountain slopes), and premontane rain forests (lowlands skirting th4e lower slopes). Among the 260 species of birds, quetzals, sparrow-hawk, guan, dove, parakeet, Montezuma oropendola, "tangara" and several types of finches and hummingbirds can be found. The most typical vegetation of the area includes oaks, magnolias, iras, alders, monkeyapple, bromeliads, mosses, ferns and the poor man`s umbrellas.
