The Day of Culture

On October 12th takes place "the Day of the Culture" (it used to be named "the Day of Columbus" or "Day of Races). It`s names thus in recognition of Costa Rica`s multicultural legacy.

It`s held on the anniversary, when the Columbus discovered in 1492 the first island of America. It commemorates the diverse of cultures and traditions in Costa Rica. It consists of traditional Indians dances and ceremonies. There are festivals and conferences.


The Limon parade

A week-long parade in Limon. Since 1949 it runs October 10 -15th culminating with a grand parade that attracts some 40.000 people. During this arts and crafts are displayed and a competition where Miss Carnaval is crowned is organized.


The markets in Tres Rios

They are held on October 12th in Tres Rios in honour of the saint patron of the town - the Virgin of Pilar.


Fiesta of corns

It`s held on October 12th in Upala. People take on for this occasion the costumes made entirely of corn husks, grains, silks.


Fiesta of San Geronado in Alajuela

On October 16th, in Alajuela takes place the fiesta devoted to the saint opatron of town - San Geronado. It`s characterized by flower-strewn parades and performances by school kids orchestras in the Central Park.

The turtles ending the laying the eggs in Tortuguero.


The thunderbolts in Cano island

On October begins the thunderstorms season around the Cano island.


The turtles in Playa Grande

The letherback turtles starts laying the eggs on the Playa Grande.


The turtles in Playa Nancite

In Playa Nancite )within the Santa Rosa National Park) the olive ridley turtles begins laying their eggs.

In Ostional Reserve the olive ridley turtles continue laying their eggs.
