Claudia Poll Ahrens
[1972-]. Was born on December 21th in Managua (Nicaragua). A living legend considered to be the biggest sportswoman in Costa Rica history. But she had plenty of connections with Costa Rica. She started swimming at the age of 7, taking the first swimming lessons in Cariari (Alajuela). Acquired her Costa Rican citizenship on september 23, 1993. She is 1.91 meters tall. She obtained a degree in Business Administration and is currently working in the Administrative Department of the Cariari Swimming Association. Her career began in 1989 when she entered the ranking because of her seven records in the Central American and Caribbean Competition. Then she earned medals and broke records in Venezuela, the United States Open, and in the Pan Pacific Competition in Kobe, Japan. In 1996 in the Barcelona Games she won the first Olympic Gold Medal for Costa Rica, where defeated the German world champion, Franziska van Almsick. In total she established three world records, the first one in Brasil (1995), the second and third ones in Sweeden in 1997. In total she has participated in 837 swims, 169 competitions and has obtained 621 medals. In 2002 she was accused for using illegal medicaments and was expected to be disqualified for some years.

Jose Luis Molina Nunez
[1965-]. Was born on May 8th in San Antonio de Coronado. The Costa Rican runner. In March of 1996 participated in the International Marathon in Los Angeles and finished in 2.13.33 being number one.

Rony Gomez Villa Fuerte
Judoman. He lives in Santa Maria de Dota in San Jose province. Three times in the years of 1990, 1993 and 1996 he was granted the title of judoman of the year.

Sylvia Ursula Poll Ahrens
[1970-]. Was born in Nicaragua. Acquired her Costa Rican citizenship in 1986. A swimmer. As first Costa Rican athlete got the medal in Olimpic Game (silver in 200-meters long free style in Seul 1988). Started his career in 1979 in Cariari (province of Alajuela). She broke 300 records, participated in 626 competitions, obtained 90 throphies and 614 medals. In 1986 in Spain went 6th on 200 meters free style, in 1991 in Australia got silver medal on 50 meters free style and in 1992 in Olimpic Game in Barcelona went 5th on 200 meters on back stroke. Two times best athlete of America (1987, 1988). Three times best sportwoman of Costa Rica (1986, 1987, 1988).


Steward Lee
Costa Rican runner who specialized in the distance of 400 meters. He was born on November 1st of 1968. In the years of 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995 he was called the best athlete of the country. In 1990 on the Fourth Central America Games held in Honduras, he was the most succesfull athlet. He got 5 gold medals on 100, 400, 800, four times of 100 and four times of 400 meters distances.
