Cabo Blanco Natural Reserve

Cabo Blanco Natural Reserve

(1.172 ha). It`s situated on the southern end of Nicoya peninsula in Puntarenas province. It consists of land (1172 ha) and water sectors (1790 ha). The land sector is covered by thick forests. It provides a shelter for squirrels, tiger cats, porcupines, armadillo, howler and spider monkeys. There are 119 species of trees (cedars, gumbo-limbo, frangipani, chicle). Seabirds are very numerous (brown pelicans, magnificent frigatebirds, and the biggest colony in country of brown boobies.

There is also the Cabo Blanco island, located 1,6 km off the coast. It`s a sheer rocky mound completely devoid of vegetation but covered with guano. (Because of their white colour, the island got its name (blanco-white).
